Windows Update stuck or looping
Most “stuck” updates are waiting on space, a hung service, or a reboot that never finished. Work top-down.
- Note the exact message or percent (photo your screen).
- Free at least 15 GB on the system drive.
- Restart once into Windows.
- Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates (plugged in).
- If it fails: Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Windows Update.
- Still stuck after two careful restarts? Pause DIY and book.
When to book: Looping for days, BitLocker/recovery screens, or a work laptop with company policies.
